Notable Market Opportunities: AllianzGI Global Water Fund

As financial advisers, part of our job is to identify strong market opportunities and encourage our clients to capitalize on them. Recently, the AllianzGI Global Water Fund has caught our attention, and we think it is a notable market opportunity for the following reasons:

  1. 5% Growth

The water crisis in Flint, Michigan and other US cities has served as the catalyst for growth in this particular fund. Andreas Fruschki, the fund’s portfolio manager, has found that capital expenditure budgets for the repair and replacement of municipal water infrastructure are slated to increase 5% in the coming year- which is significant.

5% growth may not seem like much, but it is at least double the rate of growth that we are seeing in the general economy.

  1. Strong Performance

When compared to other funds, the AllianzGI Global Water Fund has been a strong performer. Compared to the S&P 500 Total Return exchange traded fund and the John Hancock Balanced Fund, a popular balanced fund that has performed well in recent years, the investment potential of this fund is obvious:

John Hancock Balanced Fund: up 2.60% in its Net Asset Value price per

share from 12/31/2015 to 06/14/2016.

Standard & Poor 500 TR SPDR: up 2.57% in its Net Asset Value price per share

from 12/31/2015 to 6/14/2016.

AllianzGI Global Water Fd Cl A: up 6.07% in its Net Asset Value price per share

from 12/31/2015 to 6/14/2016.

Of course, it’s important to recognize that past performance is no guarantee of future results. However, this fund clearly has the potential to be an excellent contributor to the growth of your portfolio over a 3 to 5 year time period.
